MAY 9 - Communications (& additional) training was held in Salina, Kansas. Approximately 16 volunteers attended the communications class, participated in a mock disaster communications exercise, and discussed potential direction for the unit's future. Michelle, Saline County's Emergency Manager, and Melissa, Assistant Emergency Manager, were present for the whole class, ran the exercise, and contributed greatly to the discussions. Mike Duncan KE0QKS led the class and discussion and did a great job. Looking forward to seeing what's in the future for KS/NE communications!

The current SouthBEARS Kansas Nebraska strategy is to have amateur radio licensed members bring personal HF/UHF/VHF radios to facilities where the Incident Command Center is setting up, on an as needed basis, in support of Southern Baptist Disaster Relief efforts.
Longer term we are evaluating other communication methods and the equipment necessary to cost effectively support them. We are also assessing how to best complement and interact with other existing relationships Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Kansas Nebraska has locally with other organizations such as Salvation Army, Red Cross, local law enforcement, National Guard, and other governmental agencies.
